in grade 11 bio, we learned about how trees can hold scars. each year as a tree grows, the tree will gain a ring in it's trunk based on the climate of that year. if a tree experiences water scarcity for a year, the ring will be thinner, if there was a fire, the ring would be black. i thought this was a powerful metaphor for generational trauma, how scars in one generation makes itself apparent in the next.
